PRESCHOOL THREES: *FULL DAY PROGRAM (S)
(Child must be three years old prior September 1, 2012.)
Three year olds attending our Full Day Program attend the above identified class from 9:00am-12:00pm. *You may choose one or more afternoon programs (12:00pm-2:15pm) as follows:

MONDAY/TUESDAY-Adventures in Art (Enrollment in a primary class is not necessary)
This class focuses on each child’s creativity. The class will allow 3 and 4 year old children to experience many different art mediums including mod podge, clay printing ink, fabric and mosaics. The child will also be encouraged to express his/her artwork with words. We will begin the year reading a story each week and the child will then use different art techniques (such as collage, papier-mâché) to show or express comprehension of the story. Later into the year, the class will combine creating with verbalizing in that each child’s work of art becomes a story. This is an exciting way for a child to discover the world around him/her.

TUESDAY/MONDAY-Storytelling through Drama
Designed for children ages 3-5, they will read well-known children’s literature, studying the author and illustrator. They will re-enact stories or create original stories, enhancing self-expression. Children will be involved in set and costume design, as well as basic fundamentals of theater arts. Children will have opportunities to keep a weekly journal to explore creative writing and self-esteem. Staff will incorporate appropriate Pa Early Learning Standards into the weekly curriculum to help prepare them for academic learning.

WEDNESDAY-Sensational Science for 3’s
Why does ice freeze? How does the earth spin? When will it snow? What causes us to sneeze? Children will explore through hands-on activities, recommended science concepts for future academic learning. These include: descriptions of scientific phenomena, scientific vocabulary, and observations and experimentation to understand the natural world. Several possible topics include weather, volume, temperature, classifications of plants and animals, and health and nutrition. Emphasis for 3s will be on the senses- that objects give different senses and that these senses provide information.

THURSDAY-Math is All Around Us! (3’s) *(No class the last Thursday of each month)
Children learn to recognize the way math is an integral part of our world. Concepts of number/operation, geometry, measurement, fractions, money, time, patterns, algebraic thinking, and using data will be addressed through fun, hands-on activities and stories. Some activities include cooking, creating graphs, and ‘working in a grocery store’.

FRIDAY-Caring for Our Community
“In all things I have shown you that by working hard this way we must help the weak and remember the words of Lord Jesus, how he himself said, “It is better to give than to receive.”

It is never too early to teach children the concept of ‘giving back’. Being a faith-based preschool, it is important to give children opportunities to learn about people, animals, and places in the community that need our attention. Children will devote a specific amount of time to ‘giving back’, by being involved in activities like: writing letters to the elderly at Longwood Residential Community, making gift baskets for needy families, making cards for children involved in Helping Hands, making baskets for animal shelters, and making special cards or gifts for military families and the troops.
