Children will be engaged in a worship service and Bible story designed especially for our smallest worshippers, using Children and Worship by Sonja Stewart and Jerome Berryman curriculum. Following this worship time the children will use learning centers and play as the basis of learning about God's love and Jesus' model of Christian discipleship, through the use of the Presbyterian curriculum, Celebrate.
Parents of the 3’s to K’s assist the Coordinator, on a roation basis, in moving the children through their learning centers.
“Children and Worship” Worship for Children
This worship experience, designed for children, is based on the books Young Children and Worship by Sonja Stewart and Jerome Berryman and Following Jesus by Sonja Stewart. The program is patterned after the order of worship found in most Reformed and Presbyterian churches - we gather in God’s name, we proclaim God’s Word, we give thanks to God, and go out into God’s world. It also emphasizes the church year from Advent through Pentecost. A worship context is used instead of an educational
concept. Children learn that worship transforms ordinary time and space into sacred time and space.
As children enter the peaceful worship center they learn to focus on stories of God. They learn that this is a place where we talk to God and listen to God and where others are gathered to do the same. Children experience the Bible stories through hands-on three dimensional materials. Thoughtful wondering questions, expressing awe and amazement lead into prayers of thanksgiving and praise. Responses through artwork, poetry, and songs are often expressions of being in God’s presence and hearing God’s Word.
