“The Lord says: See, I am doing a new thing! -- Isaiah 43:19”

A message to the congregation from Session's Prayer Group:

There's something happening at FCPC. We can feel it and we're anticipating great things. Why? Because six months ago members of Session and the church staff began a purposeful prayer effort, praying specifically for every member of our church, by name, daily. Yes, you, your family.

Then we asked you to join us in our prayer effort by praying for others in our congregation and using the corporate prayer printed in the bulletin and newsletter, seeking God's will for our church. Now we're feeling the stirrings of the Holy Spirit, a quiet rumbling of expectation. And we are hoping you feel it as well. We ask you to continue with us, being open to all God has planned for our church family.

Today is Prayer Sunday, a chance for us to tell you about our plans for the Lenten Season. Our hope is that the Holy Spirit will inspire and empower you. We are planning a Prayer Vigil from the Maundy Thursday service until the Good Friday Tenebrae service.  Members of the congregation will be asked to commit to pray for half-hour periods, round the clock.  Prayer and meditation centers in the Chapel will facilitate our community Prayer Vigil.  Look for more information and sign-up sheets in March. In addition, during the 40 days of Lent we hope that you TAKE FIVE each day ... take five minutes and spend it with God ... anytime during the day, anywhere you might be... using the attached guide, if you choose. Pray for yourself, for your family, for our church, for our community, for our country, for our world. Pray as though you are talking to your closest friend, which He is, or can be.

TAKE FIVE ... and be ready to be surprised by God.

Prayers for the world, our community, our friends, our family, ourselves, it all falls on the ears and heart of our Lord.  As we journey through Lent towards our Easter Prayer Vigil, we invite each of you to add the concerns of your hearts to our fish weavings in the Atrium and in Fellowship Hall. There you will find baskets of fabric strips and markers.  Please take a moment to write your concern on a strip and weave it into the fish hangings. You are encouraged to write as many as you need, as often as you wish during the next forty days.  During the Prayer Vigil, everyone will be encouraged to remove a strip and make your prayer their prayer. We are united by our faith, bound by our prayers, blessed by our Father and His only son, our Lord.
