What we believe. 1/1 BELIEFS & MISSION Read more about who we are and what we believe as a community of faith. Purpose StatEment As a community of Christ’s disciples, we joyfully participate in Christ’s mission of love and peace, transformation and hope by: • inviting and welcoming all people into a life with God and a caring fellowship of faith; • glorifying God through engaging worship, prayer, and praise; • nurturing the spiritual growth of people of all ages and equipping them for lives of ministry, and; • following the Spirit to witness to God’s kingdom through compassion, justice, and service. PC (U.S.A.) Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. Read More > Pathway Statements Out of our purpose, we have designed these four pathways to acheive our goal of being a community of Christ's disciples, that joyfully par ticipates in Christ's mission of love and peace, transformation and hope: Welcome/Hospitality/Connection/ Belonging: We will move from simply welcoming th ose who show up on Sunday morning to learning to invite and practice intentional hospitality at every level and in every part of the congregation’s life—hospitality for everyone—helping people move from a first, positive contact to a place of genuine belonging in both a life with God through Christ and this vibrant community of faith. Worship: We will move in the direction of worship that is well-planned, thematically coherent, and consistently inspiring and meaningful so that those worshiping are participating more deeply in worship in whichever worship service they find themselves. Formation/Nurture/Christian Education/Spiritual Growth: We will move from assuming that going to church or being a member equals Christian discipleship to being intentional about forming people of all ages into increasingly mature disciples of Christ who are equipped to live lives of ministry in the church and community. Mission/Service/Compassion/Justice: While maintaining FCPC’s deep commitment to generously supporting mission partners, we will move in the direction of increasing real participation in acts of service, compassion, and justice, making available opportunities for people (church members and community members) to use their gifts in hands-on, face-to-face service that builds relationships—including both one-off events (e.g. Rise against hunger, fill the truck) and those requiring greater commitment (e.g. Circles out of poverty; mission trips). Purpose & Pathways adopted by ses sion in 2022

1/1 TRANSFORMATION MINISTRIES Supporting local ministries that address housing insecurity, poverty, and recovery. Open Hands Ministries Open Hands Ministries works to empower black families to build multi-generational wealth through improved financial literacy and skills. Open Hands works to remove barriers to homeownership by acquiring, rehabbing, and renovating vacant properties. You can learn more about Open Hands Ministries here . LIGHT OF LIFE RESCUE MISSION Located on Pittsburgh's North Shore, Light of Life provides food, shelter, and hope to men, women and children experiencing homelessness, poverty, or addiction. You can read more about Light of Life here OFF THE FLOOR: FURNITURE BANK Off the Floor Pittsburgh is a faith based volunteer ministry which, since 2004, has provided basic used furniture like beds, dressers, tables, and chairs to disadvantaged families who lack these items. Off the Floor invites you -- individuals or teams -- to assist with furniture deliveries and pickups. They also need volunteers in their warehouse which is located on the North Side near Acrisure Stadium. SOJOURNER HOUSE Founded in 1991 by a group of women from Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, Sojourner House and Sojourner House MOMS (Mentoring, Opportunity, Motivation, Spirituality) provide compassionate, faith-based residential recovery services to mothers and children in the Pittsburgh area. They help addicted mothers learn to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty and chemical abuse while rebuilding damaged relationships with their children. Sojourner House believes women can shatter the chains of addiction and hopelessness when surrounded by what means most to them: their children. Learn more about how you can support this ministry! CIRCLES: SHARPSBURG Circles Sharpsburg includes residents of Sharpsburg, Millvale, and O’Hara Township. We serve individuals and families of all backgrounds. Circle Leaders enjoy support from each other and from community volunteers in addressing employment, transportation, and childcare issues which hinder progress towards financial stability. Members of FCPC serve as Allies in this weekly program and (pre-COVID) provide dinner 1x/month. To help with the meals, contact FCPC Mission Committee member Amy Martin (agnevinmd@gmail.com ). To learn more about being involved in the Circles program, contact the Coordinator Kathleen Stanley at 412.977.9136 or Kathleen.lipinski@faithfoxchapel.org .

Our history and the ministries we started at FCPC. 1/1 WHO WE ARE Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church is a community of faith that has a rich tradition, vital new ministries, and an enduring legacy of mission outreach. OUR PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE The Rev. Bickford Lang, upon becoming the first pastor of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, wrote these words as a preface to the Purpose and Charter of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church in 1953: “Let us have a church that dares imitate the heroism of Jesus; seek inspiration as He sought it; act on the present like Him; pray as He prayed; work as He wrought; live as He lived." In the early 1950s, a group of families living in the Fox Chapel area began to worship together at Shadyside Academy. They became some of the 339 charter members of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church, which was officially organized in October of 1953. Two months later, the chapel was built on the corner of Fox Chapel Rd. and Field Club Rd., and worship services started to be held on the site of the present church. The church facility has grown to include a Christian Education building, a Fellowship Hall, and the Sanctuary, which was completed in 1964. In recent history, the congregation engaged in a program of mission support and extension of facilities, including new Christian Education classrooms, an Atrium, Memorial Garden and Columbarium. For more than sixty years, the members, leaders and pastors of Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church have continued in the tradition expressed by its first pastor. Thousands of men, women, and children, past and present, have made up this particular family of faith, and the tradition of Christ-centered ministry in the Fox Chapel area has become an enduring legacy. Toe, Minister of Music Library/Storytime (2s classes) with Cooper-Siegel Library Director's Corner Childhood should be a sacred space, a space for exploration and discovery. It should be a safe space where children can learn and take risks as they grow in confidence and understanding. It should be a space that exposes young minds to new ideas, new challenges, and new opportunities. Creating this space of learning through play is a platform and a model that FCPC Preschool fully embraces. There is such innate joy engaging children in this way. To witness their growth and confidence take root and grow is indeed a privilege. Creating this space requires strong leadership and a loving and motivated staff. It requires partnering with parents and families, working together to support our youngest learners. It requires commitment from all participants to embrace the love of learning. It requires a Christ-centered focus providing a firm foundation from which to launch. Allowing children this space is what FCPC Preschool does best.
